Emirates Airlines

The national carrier of UAE, Emirates Airlines, started a flight service between Dubai and Beijing. The news reported that the direct flight to Beijing leaves Dubai at 2215 hours and arrives in Beijing at 2200 hours on the same day; and that the returning flight to Dubai leaves at 0005 hours the next day. The capacity of the flight is estimated at 267 (first class 12, business class 42, and economy class 213) with the brand new airplane, A340-500.

Recently Emirates Airlines increased flights to Eastern Asia/Australia/New Zealand due to long-term demands from these areas. For example, flights to Hong Kong increased from 14 to 17 a week, flights to Perth increased from one to two a day, and aircrafts to Kuala Lumpur were replaced with the larger Boeing 777-300ER. Of course Emirates Airlines flies to Japan. Direct flight service between Dubai and Osaka started since October 1st, 2002, with its excellent service, cutting-edge aircraft and interior, and Japanese staff. And now this flight service is provided every day and furthermore another direct flight between Nagoya and Dubai was recently just started on June 1st, 2006. Even though Emirates Airlines does not fly directly from Tokyo to Dubai due to its relative unpopularity, many claim that the airline is very good. Of course I have never taken this airline before.

The flight company was established in 1985 with 100% of its capital provided by the Dubai government. Except but the second year since its establishment, this company records over 20% increase in revenue and profit compared to the previous accounting year (doubling of revenue in every couple of years). The volume of sales in 2005 was USD 6.3 billion (increase of 27% over the previous year); the net income reached USD 674 million (increase of 5.8% over the previous year).

The Emirates Airlines is one of the biggest and most profitable airline companies in the world. During the Air-Show event in Paris in June 2003, Emirates Airlines placed an order of 71 aircrafts priced at USD 19 billion. That's the world record for a single purchase. In addition, the Emirates Airlines purchased 42 aircrafts from Boeing during the Dubai Air-Show in 2005. It is announced that the Emirates Airlines will buy an aircraft every month for the next 8 years. The Emirates Airlines now hosts regular flights to 57 countries/85 cities throughout Europe, Middle Eastern Asia, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and North America. It has been awarded over 300 international prestigious prizes in various fields, for example "Airline of the year" by British survey Skytraks.

Skywards, Mileage program of the Emirates Airlines is linked with Continental, Delta, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, South Africa Airline and United Airlines.

The Emirates Airlines is also very famous for signing endorsement deals with lots of sport competitions. Now it is one of the main sponsors for FIFA and AFC. It is also the sponsor company for the British football team, Arsenal Football Club, and the main sponsor for the horse racing "World Racing Championships". So many people have seen the sponsor mark during the World Cup football games in Germany in 2006. From 2006, the Emirates Airlines also signed a contract with F1 team McLaren to be one of its sponsors.
