M.Schumacher

The rumour is that the greatest F1 driver, Michael Schumacher, who was crowned seventh all-round champion, will retire from F1 tournament participants this season. He did not clearly state his intention yet, but most European media are making a federal case on his retirement. "Kaiser" Michael Schumacher, 37 years old, who claimed his 89th career victory on tour, will have his current contract with Ferrari expiring this season. On September 6th, German Bild and Reuter reported that the announcement of his retirement was highly possible. The mood seems to prevail around him. At the beginning of this season, BBC announced that Renault was eager to secure Schumacher and the prospect of his career continuing was very good.

After summer has come, German F1 driver has-been, Niki Lauda, commented to another German magazine that the possibility of Schumacher's career continuing was only 5%. A vice-chairman of International Automobile Federation, Bernie Ecclestone, also said that nobody was worried about F1 becoming hugely unpopular without Schumacher. This statement triggered off the rumour of his retirement again. The individual in question has not given any comments except that he would say something after the Italian Grand Prix (finals on September 10th).Italian Grand Prix is Ferrari's birth place and celebrates the memory of his first win. Ferrari was heard to have already made a contract with Kimi Matias Räikkönen, Finnish F1 driver belonging to Team McLaren Mercedes at the moment, and this contract is the sign of making a strategic move to maintain Ferrari’s performance in the post-Schumacher era. However nobody knows what will happen and many will be surprised by the current situation of F1 field. The announcement after the Italian Grand Prix is highly anticipated.

In fact, it has been a long time since I last watched a F1 race on TV. F1 was in vogue in Japan till the year of 1995. After the retirement of Japanese second F1 driver, Aguri Suzuki, strong Japanese TV support for the F1 program subsided for a while. Therefore I could not watch these F1 races. During the days of me watching F1 races, lots of famous F1 drivers were activated. For example, Brazilian driver - Ayrton Senna, French driver - Alain Marie Pascal Prost, British driver - Nigel Ernest James Mansell etc. They all had a strong individuality and these personalities fascinated lots of observers. When Finnish driver, Mika Pauli Häkkinen, and Schumacher came out onto the screen, I found them to be the next generation of drivers.
